African Stars pre-season tournament this weekend

Katutura football giants African Stars yesterday launched its eagerly-awaited pre-season tournament, which is set to take place this weekend, and the weekend of 29 and 30 October at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo.

The Cenored-sponsored tournament will feature Stars, Black Africa, Life Fighters, Okahandja United, Touch and Go, Golden Bees and Okakarara Young Warriors, and it is aimed at getting the elite clubs ready ahead for the new season, which will start next month. Cenored has committed N$50 000 towards the competition.

Speaking at yesterday’s official launch, Stars team manager and club stalwart Lesley Kozonguizi said the tournament will provide an opportunity for the players to shake off some unwanted rust and break sweat ahead of the new Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

“This will not only help the premier league clubs, but also the other participating clubs towards readiness for the new season. It is very important that we give players enough time and platforms to get ready and this tournament will do just that. We really want to thank Cenored for coming on board and for supporting the clubs and our players; we really appreciate the good gesture,” said Kozonguizi.

The Namibia Football Association is yet to officially announce the amended kick off dates for the NPFL, the First Divisions and the women’s league.
