With Namibia making world headlines as a key source for green hydrogen production, the Africa Institutional Management Services (Aims) and Namibia Youth Renewable Energy (Nayore) recently signed a partnership to empower more youth with knowledge of renewable energy.

The primary aim of the initiative is to develop new skills amongst the youth and the community in general through accredited training programmes.

Nayore is a registered non-profit organisation, with the aim of mainstreaming youth in the energy (renewable) sector through policy-making, education, training, and public engagement for capacity-building and entrepreneurship.

Aims CEO Cleophas George Gaweseb told Youth Corner their institution, with assistance from their German technical partners, is currently in the process of developing certificate and diploma qualifications to upskill Namibian youth on sustainable energy.

“We jointly embrace national developmental initiatives, as it relates to renewable energy in capacity building and the provision of relevant human resources to the country. The overarching aim of this partnership is for education, training and development,” he noted.

It is anticipated that the first courses will commence mid-next year.

Co-founder of Nayore Justus Amwaama highlighted the significance of working with Aims, saying they believe the youth must be included in national policies when it comes to issues related to energy.

“We (Namibia) house some very, very good renewable energy sources in the world, particularly in solar and green energy; hence, the reason why green hydrogen is very lucrative when it comes to Namibia,” stressed Amwaama.

He added the government has made a commitment to developing green hydrogen as one of the key pillars to realise economic empowerment in Namibia.

Amwaama said Nayore is thankful for the partnership with Aims, which will work in favour of the Namibian youth and the development of the green hydrogen of Namibia.
