The Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) officially launched the 21st edition of the Namibia Annual Sports Awards (Nasa) at the Namsphire Sport Village in Windhoek yesterday.

This year’s ceremony is scheduled for 22 November in Ongwediva, bringing the prestigious event back to the Oshana Region for the first time since 2019.

Speaking at the launch, vice chairperson of the NSC, Patrick Xoagub, acknowledged the role of sponsors and the importance of honouring Namibian athletes.

He further praised Namibian athletes for their determination and pride in representing the country:

“This past year, and indeed every year, our sports ambassadors have poured their hearts into representing Namibia with dignity – both on and off the field of play. They have overcome challenges, broken barriers, and brought us moments of pride that remind us why we must gather as a nation to honour them.”

This year’s awards will include the induction of three legends into the newly introduced “Wall of Fame”. Additionally, federations will now be able to nominate up to three athletes per category, up from the previous one.

Nominations open on 25 July and close on 30 September 2025, with federations urged to familiarise themselves with the updated rule book.

NSC Marketing and Public Relations Officer Givean Samulandela used the platform to call for strategic collaboration from across society:

“The awards have grown to become a premier national celebration, thanks largely to robust partnerships and sponsorships from the private sector, media and civic bodies.”

He added that smart partnerships, those offering mutual value to both sport and supporters, are vital for development, especially when aligned with youth empowerment and community upliftment.

The NSC concluded by encouraging all stakeholders to take part in this year’s awards, supporting the athletes who continue to make Namibia proud. -hilmanalupe@gmail.com
