A woman accused of killing her one-year-old baby and burying the body, is demanding that the State promptly finalises her case.
Vapeni Lucia Boois (36) is charged with murder and defeating the course of justice about the death of her infant on 21 January 2023 in Keetmanshoop.
She made a routine appearance before Deputy Judge President Hosea Angula yesterday.
During the proceedings, she could not agree with her attorney because she did not want to be ‘indicted’ anymore, and for the State to take over her case.
“I refuse to be indicted. I am tired. This case needs to be resolved because it is causing me health and mental problems. Since the issue was already decided in the regional court, this is a violation of my human rights,” she stated.
She said her trial needs to be done without her physical presence, as her rights are violated for being forced to appear in courts.
She wrote letters to the judge and attorney general, asking for the resolution of her case.
The accused’s attorney said she was not given a preview of the letter because, prior to the hearing, she had learnt from the accused that she had obtained second opinions.
As a result, she will not sign the documents required of her because she believes it to be an indictment.
The prosecution agreed upon questioning by the judge that the matter could proceed without the signature of the accused.
As such, Judge Angula allocated the matter to Judge Philanda Christiaan.
He ordered that the accused remain in custody at the Windhoek Correctional Facility.
Boois is accused of the murder of Amare Alejandro Jose Boois.
She allegedly stabbed him with a knife or a sharp object at least 15 times.
The second count involves burning some clothing and/or other items after burying his body in a shallow grave beneath some sand or stones on Farm Buchholtzbrunn near Bethanie.
The accused is represented by Susan Nyatondo, and the State by Ethel Ndlovu.
