Two Angolan police officers have been arraigned for the alleged murder of a Namibian learner who was shot in Angola on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Johannes Shatipamba Nangolo succumbed to his injuries at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
Nangolo was a grade 11 learner at Shaanika Nashilongo.
The governor of Omusati region, Erginus Endjala, condemned the shooting, but appealed to the nation to leave the matter in the hands of the authorities.
“If the situation becomes unbecoming, we request the public to report the matter to the authorities because if we resort to an eye for an eye, it will create chaos,” said Endjala.
Endjala said the Namibian police attached to Luanda, in conjunction with the Angolan police, are expected to arrive at the scene of the incident to compile a comprehensive report.
According to the latest police information, Nangolo was in Angola to visit his grandmother.
Nangolo and his siblings were reportedly having a party at his brother’s shebeen at Otilindi location in Angola prior to the shooting. At around 22h00, an Angolan police officer that is stationed at the Okapalelona border post reportedly came to the shebeen and demanded that the shebeen be closed.
He went back to get back up and an argument erupted between him and his colleague and not with the deceased as it was earlier reported.
As the deceased and others were about to drive off, the two Angolan police officers arrived and demanded that the vehicle be stopped.
One of the police officers walked towards the driver and allegedly shot Nangolo with a pistol in the head and left the scene.
Nangolo later succumbed to his injuries at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
