WINDHOEK – The docket in the matter in which the suspended acting Secretary-General of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) Alfred Angula faces a charge of fraud was unavailable in court on Thursday.
As a result the matter was remanded to May 16 to enable the police to make available the docket. Angula was granted bail of N$50 000 last year October, which was also extended until his next appearance. He faces a charge of fraud and theft from the Namibia Farmworkers Union (NAFWU) involving about N$1.2 million according to the charge sheet. The money was donated to the union by a foreign donor agency.
Angula was arrested after the donor agency, Fes Belgium, laid charges of fraud and theft against him. The offence was allegedly committed between January 31, 2012 and December 31, 2012. Angula was arrested in December last year, and was denied bail during his first appearance. Only after a formal bail hearing was he granted bail. Angula was the Secretary-General of NAFWU until July 2011, when he took up the position of acting Secretary-General of the NUNW, the umbrella union following the unceremonious departure of Evilastus Kaaronda.
