Anticipation builds as MTC Netball Premier League returns

Anticipation builds as MTC Netball Premier League returns

The stage is set, and excitement is mounting for the 2025 MTC Netball Namibia Premier League (NNPL).

The event kicks off tomorrow at the Khomasdal netball courts in Windhoek.

The league starts with a N$2.9 million boost from MTC as sponsor.

Speaking ahead of the opening round, Netball Namibia president Juanita Witbeen said preparations are complete and all teams are ready to take to the court.

“We’re excited and ready for the 2025 MTC Netball Namibia Premier League kick-off. The energy is high, the teams are prepped, and the court is calling. Here’s to a season of teamwork, passio and unstoppable netball action. Let’s make 2025 unforgettable,” she said.

Among the clubs eager to make an impact this season is Afrocat Sports Club.

Head coach Dimitri Bitler said the team will feature a blend of rising stars and experienced players.

“We’re excited to share that Afrocat will be introducing a fresh line-up, with several new and young players bringing a dynamic and energetic style to the court. Their enthusiasm and hunger for success are already making a difference,” he said.

“At the same time, our seasoned veterans remain vital to our setup, proving they still have what it takes to perform at the highest level. With this balance of youth and experience, we are confident about improving our rankings this year and leaving a strong mark on the campaign,” he added.

Tigers Netball Club head coach Viva Kamberipa said the delayed start to the season gave teams ample time to fine-tune their strategies.

“The league has been long overdue. This extended period allowed us to train and prepare thoroughly. Our players are hungry and ready to fight for the title,” she said.

Defending champions Namibia Correctional Service are ready to protect their crown, head coach Teri Tuare said.

“We used the recently concluded Confederation of Southern African Netball Associations Championship to prepare for the league. We’re not underestimating any opponent. We will approach each game with focus and intensity,” she stated.

Wanderers Netball Club head coach Erica van Zyl said her squad has been hard at work since February.

“Our players are fit and well-prepared. We’re confident going into the season, although we are placing extra focus on improving our shooting accuracy,” she stated.

New Era will livestream two matches tomorrow on its Facebook page. ‘

Action kicks off at 10h00.

More matches will be streamed on Sunday, starting at 08h00.
