Namibian fashion designer Armando van Wyk has once again made headlines, this time as the creative mind behind the stunning look of newly crowned Miss Namibia 2025, Johanna Swartbooi.

Van Wyk, who represented Namibia at the Batho Fashion Week in Gaborone, Botswana, last year, dressed Swartbooi throughout her pageant journey. Their collaboration began in 2020, the year his brand King_A_Apparel was officially launched shortly after Swartbooi’s last pageant, where she was crowned second runner-up.

“We only started working together from the year my brand was launched, which was 2020, the year after her last entry. Since then, it’s been nothing short of amazing,” he said.

When asked about challenges working with the new Miss Namibia, Van Wyk had nothing but praise for her professionalism and attitude.

“To date, I would say none. With her runway background, she’s very easy-going. She can throw on any garment and make it work effortlessly. I’m forever grateful for her free spirit,” he said.

Although there haven’t been official talks yet about representing Namibia at international pageants like Miss Universe, Van Wyk says he’s honoured to be part of Swartbooi’s glam team and is already working on a standout.

“I designed the final round gown. Let’s top the Miss Namibia gown she was crowned in,” he said

He also revealed that his studio was always open for Swartbooi during her preparation for the pageant.

“Indeed, I was part of the journey. My studio was always open for her to play dress-up in. Keep logged in for more looks,” he said.

Van Wyk has built a reputation for bold and edgy designs that challenge the norms of traditional fashion. His label has become a symbol of creativity and self-expression in Namibia’s growing fashion industry.

Swartbooi was crowned Miss Namibia 2025 in July in the Oshana region and is set to represent Namibia at Miss Universe.
