Investec Asset Management has won the FM Micropal award for the Best Larger Group over the past eight years.

The Micropal awards ranks best performing funds and best overall investment firms according to the firms’ worldwide methodology.

It is an eighth consecutive time that Investec Asset Management wins the award.

“Our ambition has always been to provide enduring investment performance and unrelenting service for our clients. Winning this award for the eighth year in a row provides some affirmation to us that we are closer to this goal,” said Hendrick du Toit, the chief executive officer and founder of Investec Asset Management.

Founded by a small group of people with the belief that they could make a difference in the financial market, the company went into operation 17 years ago.

In addition to the group awards, Investec Asset Management also won fund awards for the Investec Commodity Fund, Investec Worldwide Fund, Investec Opportunity Fund and the Investec Property Equity Fund.

“Winning these awards allows us to take a truly objective look at ourselves relative to our competitors,” said Du Toit.

Du Toit said the investment world is fiercely competitive and asset managers face a lot of skepticism about the performance numbers they claim to achieve by quoting point in time returns.

“To be able to claim that for eight years running our fund range has outperformed the competition is irrefutable proof that we are consistently doing something right and an endorsement of the quality business that we set out to build 17 years ago. For this, we are both proud and grateful,” said du Toit.

Du Toit said Investec investments have demonstrated that “we can stay a step ahead, that we are not one dimensional in our approach to investing and that in the long run and in the short run, we are a very difficult team to beat”.

“It is a culture where our portfolio managers are given freedom, but always within the parameters of accountability and a robust risk management and research framework. Crucially, they have the freedom to build, and build relentlessly, excellent investment performance for our clients.” However, he says, these awards are now history.

“Our focus is on the future. We look forward to getting on with the job of providing our clients with the kind of performance we can look back on in 20 years with pride,” he said.
