Residents of Katima Mulilo Rural constituency had a rude awakening with two lions. Escaped from the Chobe National Park, roaming around their villages, with one lion having now been killed after attacking a villager.

New Era senior reporter, Albertina Nakale engaged the newly elected mayor of Katima Mulilo, John Ntemwa (JN) on some of his strategic plans for the town during his tenure. Ntemwa, a Swapo councillor was elected as the new mayor of Katima Mulilo Town Council last December via secret ballot after a tie in nomination with former mayor, Lister Shamalaza. 

Although the government has established decentralisation programmes to bring development and services closer to the grassroots levels, the marginalised communities within the Bwabwata National Park feel little has been done for them in terms of development and provision of services.

The health status of Namibia has improved steadily since independence, and the government further seeks to improve the country’s health services.
