Home Crime and Courts Bail hearing of alleged fraudster postponed

Windhoek

The bail hearing of a South African national who allegedly stole N$4 million from his Namibian employer was due to start on Thursday in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court, but the defence lawyer was unable to proceed and as a result the matter was remanded to September 21.

Peter Tyran Kohler, 44, who lives in Ongwediva, allegedly defrauded his employer, Pennypinchers Timbercity, of N$4 million. He is represented by Willem Visser and faces a charge of fraud (alternatively theft), following his arrest on September 10.

Court documents indicate that in one instance on August 21 this year, Kohler defrauded Pennypinchers Timbercity in Windhoek. Court records did not contain any details of how the offence occurred.

Kohler made his first appearance in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the State objected to him being granted bail, but the defence indicated that they would still bring a bail application on the specified date.
Magistrate Kaulikalelwa Nghishitende presided, while Erastus Hatutale represented the State.
