The 5th edition of the Bank Windhoek Long Course gala and the annual Aquapentathlon for the 2016/2017 swimming season came to a successful conclusion over the weekend at the Olympia swimming pool.

A total of 88 swimmers took part in the long course gala held on Friday, April 7, while four clubs were represented, namely: Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club (10 swimmers), Dolphins Swimming Club (67 swimmers), Marlins Swimming Club (one swimmer) and Namib Swim Academy (10 swimmers).

“The support that swimming receives from Bank Windhoek for our long course season cannot be overemphasised and appreciated,” said Jurie Badenhorst, public relations officer at the Namibian Swimming Union (NSU).

“Coming to the end of the long course season and with some of the swimmers returning from tours, while the elite swimmers are still on tour in the South African National Championships, and the fact that no records were set and only 24 percent of the swimmers improved their personal best times, is quite understandable,” Badenhorst added.

A total of 65 swimmers took part in the annual Aquapentathlon held on Saturday, April 8. Three clubs were represented in the event, namely: Dolphins Swimming Club (59 swimmers), Marlins Swimming Club (one swimmer) and Namib Swim Academy (five swimmers).

The Bank Windhoek Aquapentathlon is an annual gala where all swimmers are required to partake in five events and are then awarded points per event, resulting in an overall winner for boys and girls 12 years and under, and an overall winner for boys and girls 13 years and older.
