… Pirates look to down BA
WINDHOEK – With four rounds of matches left before the curtain comes down on the first round of activities in the lucrative MTC Premiership, boys are being separated from the men with the Katutura big four once again firmly in the driving seat heading to round eight.
This week’s pick of the MTC Premiership clashes is doubtlessly the Katutura derby between traditional rivals FNB Orlando Pirates and reigning Namibian champions Black Africa slated for the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday 20h00.
Unlike in recent derbies where pride and bragging rights were more at stake, Pirates are serious title contenders this term and a rare victory over their old foes will move them within touching distance of log leaders Tigers.
In their last two league outings, the Namibian champions scraped to a lucky 1-0 triumph against lowly Ramblers and were dangerously lucky to earn a point against Tigers in their last match.
Following their splendid performance that saw them wrestling a point from their tough league tie at PC Blue Boys, Ramblers could prove tricky customers for Katutura glamour football club African Stars when the two giants lock horns at the Sam Nujoma Stadium tonight at 20h00.
Past encounters between the two cross-town rivals have never failed to ignite the fans and tonight’s clash could go a long way in defining both teams’ destination though for totally different reasons.
Ramblers are flirting dangerously with relegation and urgently need to start collecting points while Woody Jacobs’ charges are in dire need of a comprehensive victory to make a serious statement with regard to their hobbling title credentials.
