KATWITWI – The body of a 19-year-old Johanna Mukwangu who was attacked and dragged to the bottom of the Kavango River at Tuguva village by a crocodile on Saturday was recovered on Monday afternoon after an intensive search of the river.

The body was found with some parts missing. The crocodile has since disappeared from the
area.

“The search for the crocodile will continue to put it down since it is troubling the community of Tuguva,” said Police Inspector Raimbert Muronga.

He added that the search was conducted by the Namibian Police Water Policing Unit along with the environment
ministry.

“The next of kin were informed and they came together with some community and members of the family to identify the corpse,” Muronga said.

He said the incident was reported to have happened on Saturday at 17h00 on the Kavango River, where Mukwangu and two other females went fishing.

It is alleged that the trio crossed a small stream by swimming to an island where they went to catch fish. On their way back, the victim was allegedly caught by the said crocodile, which pulled her back into the water and was never seen again.

In a separate incident, a lifeless body of Maikel Siwombe Karumbwena (25) was found hanging on a tree at 07h00 at Cwi village in the Namagoro constituency of Kavango West.

According to the police, no suicide note was found.

His next of kin were informed and police will continue with investigations.
