WINDHOEK – With the African States Bowls Tournament (AST) around the corner on September 08, some of Namibia’s players will take to the Windhoek Country Club on Saturday to participate in the ‘Champion of Champions’ competition.

A total of 23 female and 21 male players have registered to compete in their respective divisions. After back-to-back victories in this event the past two years, William Esterhuizen will be the player to watch out for in the men’s division, but he can’t expect a another stroll in the park. With one and three titles between them, Graham Snyman and Ewald Vermeulen will fancy their chances to win this year’s tournament and therefore represent Namibia at the ‘Champion of Champions’ World Cup in New Zealand next year. Having won this event four times already, Marie van der Merwe is one of the hot favourites to be crowned the champion again this year. The spot for New Zealand will however be closely contested, as fellow national team player Diana Viljoen, winner of three ‘Champion of Champions’ titles, as well as Sheena du Toit and Charlotte Morland are considered among those able to clinch the top spot.
