Following Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Niger in their 2017 Afcon qualifier, Namibia’s Brave Warriors were yesterday dealt another blow after the team missed their flight back home due to failed flight connections.
With their arrival in Namibia initially scheduled for yesterday at around noon, the team’s departure was ruined by a failure to connect on time to Accra, Ghana from Ivory Coast.
“As a result, we therefore missed the flight that would have connected us to South Africa so that we could make it on time for our Air Namibia flight back home. But everything is under control now. We have booked in and will fly out to South Africa and at least by lunchtime today the team should be in Windhoek,” said Brave Warriors team manager Tim Isaacs.
The 2015 Cosafa Cup champions will host a 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Zambia on Sunday afternoon.
The bulk of the team that travelled to Niger are in contention for a place in the starting line-up for the Zambia match, but according to Isaacs the nine extra players that were called up for a training camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria returned home yesterday as scheduled.
“Upon our arrival today, there will be an afternoon training session at the Sam Nujoma Stadium and the coach will announce the team for the Zambia match,” Isaacs indicated.
Players that formed part of the latest Warriors camp and are eligible for the Zambia match: Goalkeepers: Lloyd Kazapua, and Charles Uirab. Defenders: Benyamin Nenkavu, Brian Gurirab, Ferdinand Karongee, Dynamo Fredericks, Charles Hambira, Tiberius Lombard, Denzil Hoaseb, Ananias Gebhardt, Gregory Aukumeb, Dennis Ngueza Tjetinda. Midfielders: Neville Tjiueza, Willy Stephanus, Heinrich Isaacks, Peter Shalulile, Wangu Batista, Joslin Kamatuka and Absalom Iimbondi. Strikers: Itamunua Keimuine, Sadney Urikhob.
