ONGWEDIVA – Police in Oshana on Monday afternoon arrested three men caught red-handed while breaking into a house at Ongwediva Extension 11.

Two suspects managed to flee the crime scene but police apprehended them a few metres away, while the third suspect was found hiding inside the house.

Soon after their arrest, the young men who are between the ages 16 to 19 reportedly confessed they regularly broke into homes in the suburb. They also said they sold some of the stolen goods for cheap, for example, N$200 for a flat screen television that costs thousands of dollars.

They also led the police to places where they stashed some of their loot.

According to Oshana Chief of Operations, Chief Inspector Karel Theron the suspects’ latest activities were spotted by the targetted house owner’s neighbours who discovered three young men using a metal bar to break the burglar bars of the house’s kitchen window.

The neighbours alerted the police who rushed to the scene. A laptop and a charger were seized.

The owner of the house Abed Pele Teofilus who was grateful for his neighbours and  police’s speedy action said he was not at home when the break-in took place.

“When I arrived the police were already here,” said Teofilus.

The suspects who appear to be regular jailbirds will appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court today.
