Home Crime and Courts Burnt victim’s brother testifies

WINDHOEK -The brother of the woman whose private parts were allegedly burnt by her boyfriend testified in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court last week Wednesday.

Albert Majunda testified that he received a text message alerting him that his sister’s lover, Lazarus Munganga, was holding her hostage. Majunda also informed the court that his sister uncovered herself to show him her burn wounds that had started to putrify, prompting him to take her to the hospital. Last year New Era broke the story in which Lazarus Munganga (39) allegedly beat up his girlfriend Albertina Majunda with a broom all over her body on January 28 last year in a fit of jealous rage. Munganga then allegedly set some plastic bags alight and started burning her private parts, buttocks and feet.

The accused accused his girlfriend of infidelity. “What began as a jolly evening punctuated by the drinking of wine, turned to horror when Munganga turned violent minutes after they had sex. Out of jealousy the boyfriend accused her of cheating on him,” the woman informed New Era following the incident last year. Munganga has been in custody since last year pending the conclusion of the trial. The matter will continue on October 18. Magistrate George Mbundu is presiding, while Anthony Wilson is representing the State.
