By Discriminating Against Diescho, Oshana Regional Council Insults the Constitution

If the Oshana Regional Council is allowed to discriminate against Mr Diescho on the grounds of his political views, then it means anybody else will be discriminated on the basis of this sinful approach.

But I want to first warn Mr Kaaronda and other youth leaders to behave. They must concentrate on their specific duties and must avoid rallying the nation against a simple and honest young man who was brought up in the dusty streets of Kavango. I would have supported their call if it had been directed against Mr Muyongo who participated in the killing of his own innocent Namibians before fleeing to Denmark to hide.

But Mr Diescho is just a teacher who simply chose to be liberally talkative, because that is what a teacher is expected to do. I also thought he was against the government, but when I attended one of his free public talks at Polytech last year, I became baptized by his sharp intelligence. After one hour with him you begin to wish you were like him.

I am just wondering why the Oshana Council chose to deprive themselves of the best products that professor Diescho would have delivered to them. It would have been an eye-opener and a blessing for the council members to learn from their own son.

The Oshana Regional Council needs to know that Diescho is a very friendly guy and has run several workshops for the government already. It is surprising that the Oshana Regional Council is the only one which has discriminated against him and they ignorantly think they are more SWAPO than others.

You see, if you think Diescho is a government critique, you should invite him to come and participate in the restructuring of the local authorities so that in future you can blame him for his failures and lack of participation. We need people like Diescho, especially at a time when our country will fall under the rule of dictatorship. I know Diescho would not hesitate to blow his political whistle.

We are lucky now that God has blessed us with Sam Nujoma and then with Hifikepunye Pohamba. We still don’t know what will come after the good leaders. We need to know that Diescho is not a threat to government because he too does not have a political constituency, although he has at least an academic one. He is not my relative and I only accept him as a Namibian, and nothing else. Diescho is not a company, but an individual like myself. So, why are you calling the youth and the workers of this country to rally against him?

I call upon the President, His Excellency Tate Pohamba, to call to order these young boys who have just jumped into the boat of the Workers and Youth leaderships. They must not attempt to divide us, because re-uniting us again will be a serious problem. At least Diescho has an academic constituency, but Kaaronda and group have nowhere to go once they are fired.

Mr Kaaronda and group must not behave like Kapia. They must concentrate on their mandate. The Diescho issue must not be nationalized. Like any other Namibian, Diescho has the right to go to court if he feels he has been discriminated against. Whether he wins or loses, is up to him. It must be a Diescho versus Oshana Council case, and NOT a case of Diescho versus Namibia.

For your information, I am very angry about this approach. Only a fool would contribute his N$l to the Oshana Council’s defence of the Diescho case. If you contribute money to support the Oshana Council, then you must make sure you do it for all Regional Councils that may find themselves in the same legal battle with someone. Or is it a special contribution only against Diescho?

All I know is that Diescho is just a simple, young Namibian. Why are these people so afraid of him that they even consider him to be important?

What I liked about Diescho is that he is so rich in legal logic that you begin to wonder if he is really a Namibian or not. What is even more interesting is that he does not even hesitate to severely criticize himself if he makes a mistake. This tells you that if he can criticize his own views, how then do you expect to be spared. I think he is the best transmitter of political philosophy I have ever met. As he speaks, he is like someone who is pulling different authors from the shelf. You can quickly begin to accept that indeed you are before a professor who is also a holder of two doctoral degrees. The University of South Africa goes for top quality teachers and did not make a mistake by appointing him as a professor.

Dr Diescho is one of those people who has no time to backbite others. If he has something against you, he will tell you straight that he thinks you are going the wrong way. This is good, because at least we know Diescho’s position.

But the Deputy Minister of Health and the Deputy Minister of Local Government have openly stated in Parliament that some Swapo members are busy assassinating their own colleagues and leaders. There are even those who are trying to destroy the image of the former President, Tate Nujoma.

Please leave that man alone. You must stop insulting our leaders because that is an insult to everyone of us.

I would encourage Mr Diescho to fight his case. If he wins, it will be a victory for the Constitution and that will prevent other municipalities from discriminating against Namibians on the basis of their political opinions. If our Regional Councils start discriminating against us on the basis of our political views, is this not another way of dictatorship and suppression? Please be educated: why discriminate against Namibians just because they have opposed the government? Rather start with the parliamentary members of the opposition parties because they are the ones busy criticizing the government on a daily basis. It is foolish to start with Diescho!

Some confused so-called youth and worker leaders were even accusing Diescho of being too expensive when he asked N$35??????’??
