WINDHOEK

Although food is a source of nourishment, not getting enough of the right type or too much of the wrong type can be dangerous to one’s lifestyle and physical health.

The damage may not be felt but, warns a dietician, “this does not mean that the damage is not being done”.

“The problem is that the damage of unhealthy eating habits is cumulative,” said Samatha Hentze,” a registered dietician.

She said although dangerous eating habits may not immediately affect one’s health, over time, one would be diagnosed with serious illnesses that are linked to years of feeding on junk food.

To educate Namibians about healthy eating habits, the Namibia Network of AIDS Service Organisations (NANASO) has organised a Nutrition Week, which runs from today until October 16.

Activities for the week include Healthy Eating talks at several Penduka Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) points in Windhoek between 10h00 and 11h00, which will be given by trained facilitators from Penduka TB; and a video on Feed Your Child which will be screened every day from today until Friday at NANASO resource centre (10 Ondoto Street Okuryangava between 15h00 and 16h00).
