The Cancer Association of Namibia will be hosting a first ever Annual Cancer Ball in February next year.
“Various cancer associations worldwide host a cancer ball once a year to not only create awareness and bring together especially the corporate community to educate them on cancer within the work environment, but such events also serve as a wonderful fundraiser for these associations,” says the chief executive officer of Cancer Association Namibia Rolf Hansen.
“The Cancer Association of Namibia is completely reliant on in-house self-driven projects to generate funds, while the support from the corporate community in terms of social investment donations and projects initiated and donations made by the public allows us to do the work we do daily,” he said.
Through the mooted Cancer Ball, the association aims to generate funds earmarked specifically for the new national outreach projects – as in the Northern Outreach launched in August at Oshakati.
The outreach work entails organising various community pap smear and breast examination clinics, as well as men’s health clinics to boost the fight against prostate and testicular cancer in rural areas, as well as at regional outreach points in Oshakati, Ongwediva, Ondangwa, Rundu, Katima-Mulilo, Keetmanshoop, Lüderitz, Omaruru, and along the central coast. As part of the 2016 rollout model this work will be supported by the funds raised through this event.
The first annual Cancer Ball will be a themed mask ball, hosted in Windhoek on Friday, February 12, 2016 at the Safari Conference Centre.
Only 40 tables of 10 persons each at N$10 000 a table, are available for this exclusive event, that will see live jazz and swing music presented by the Wikaphoniker, while an auction by renowned senior art specialist at Strauss & Co. Auctioneers and Consultants, Ruarc Peffers, will assist in fundraising on the evening.
