Namibia’s women’s cricket team, the Capricorn Eagles were sent off yesterday at the Namibia Cricket Ground, for the International Cricket Council (CC) Women’s T20 World Cup Global qualifier in Nepal. The qualifier will be held from 13 January to 2 February 2026, with the World Cup set for 12 June to 5 July 2026.

Namibia earned their spot at the global qualifier through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifier, where the Capricorn Eagles finished among the top two teams.

The 15-member squad will first participate in a pre-tournament in India, before heading to Nepal for the qualifier, where 10 teams will feature.

Speaking at the send-off event, head coach, Francois van der Merwe said the pre-tournament will allow the team to face stronger opposition before the qualifier as well as to prepare for the weather.

“I know it’s going to be a very big challenge and there will be no easy games, but we are very well prepared for it,” said van der Merwe.

Kayleen Green and Arrasta Diergaard were also recognised at the event for each having achieved 100 T20I international caps.

Green described the milestone as a great honor and said that, “I don’t think a lot of players believe that they can reach 100, so it is a huge achievement to receive this milestone and an honor to represent my country.”
