The Hage Geingob High School stirred the pot in MTC HopSol Youth League when they walked over an uninspired Pioniers Boys 4-1 in their U/19 group clash at the Trustco United Football field on Saturday.

Agriculture contributes heavily to the GDP of many African countries, and it employs more than half of the rural population across the continent. Namibia is no exception. Despite the positive effect of agriculture across the continent, the sector remains unattractive to young people. Many young Africans move to urban areas, and have no interest in taking up agriculture as a source of livelihood. 

We continue building on the column shared two weeks ago on financial literacy for farmers and SMEs in general. For this week, we would like to dive deep into debt management, as this has an impact on how we manage our finances and build on financial freedom. 

Metarere Ngeenguno had always wanted to farm for himself. The lure of deciding on his own breed, production type and how to market his products effectively was overwhelming for the ardent farmer. Having been raised in the livestock rich Omaheke region, Ngeenguno’s dream grew by the day as he watched other farmers going about the trade in his home constituency of Aminuis. 

Finance minister Iipumbu Shiimi warned that tax does not discriminate and thus urged all Namibian citizens to be compliant and pay tax as required. Shiimi further cautioned those trying to escape and avoid honouring their tax obligations to the revenue agency to be mindful because “it is just a matter of time”.

Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) president Bisey /Uirab yesterday said Namibia’s recent oil discoveries and its renewable energy ambitions can significantly boost economic growth. He further noted that the evolving opportunities cannot be ignored by the local business community.

Namibia has recognized the importance of digital transformation as a critical component of economic growth and development. The country is making significant progress and is embracing digital technologies, and leveraging them to enhance competitiveness, spur innovation, and improve the quality of life of its citizens.

Digitisation is no longer something in the distant future but has become an everyday process, even in Africa. Digitisation as a transformative social process accelerated at a frantic rate during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said efforts aimed at raising funds for Namibia’s needy orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) should be commended and supported by all. The PM noted that national efforts to support vulnerable compatriots will only yield the desired outcomes if all stakeholders pull in the same direction. 

The Office of the Prime Minister on Monday handed over a hand-held tractor worth N$70 000 to the Nakalega Irrigation Project in the Okatana constituency in the Oshana region.
