The Namibia Football Association (NFA) yesterday announced the withdrawal of the Brave Warriors from next month’s African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament, scheduled for 4–25 April in Cameroon. The withdrawal was prompted by the widespread coronavirus outbreak.

A Mind Sport is a game of skill where the competition is based on a particular type of the intellectual ability as opposed to physical exercise. The objective in mind sports is to test mental strength rather than physical strength. 

After President Hage Geingob announced on Saturday that government has banned all mass gatherings for 30 days, clamped down on inbound and outbound travels to and from Qatar, Ethiopia and Germany for a period of 30 days as well as cancelling Namibia’s 30th independence celebrations scheduled for 21 March, the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) yesterday strongly followed up on that decree.

The Court of arbitration for Sport (Cas) has given the Namibia Football Association (NFA) until Thursday this week to provide or submit audio recordings, transcribed record, minutes and all relevant documents pertaining to the vetting process of this year’s NFA elective congress.

On Saturday, government announced that Namibia has recorded her first cases of the deadly coronavirus after a couple from Romania who arrived in the country on Wednesday both tested positive and have been quarantined.

The outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, which has infected more than 132,000 people globally and spread to at least 120 countries worldwide, has also severely crippled sporting events in Namibia. The pandemic is officially known as Covid-19.

Everywhere in the global sphere, countries, people and women are celebrating women’s month. The month of March signifies how far women have come from the days of not being allowed to cast votes or partake in sport events. 

Namibia’s undefeated featherweight boxer Sakaria ‘Desert Storm’ Lukas will tomorrow make his much-anticipated American debut at New York’s Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden when he confronts America’s Jessie Magdaleno in what is expected to be a thrilling 10-round featherweight bout.

The name Knowledge Ndunge Ipinge will go down in our national archives as the brave young man who took the bull by its horns, defying old age tradition when he stood as an independent candidate as councilor for Walvis Bay Urban constituency  – winning the contest hands down, much to the chagrin of political heavyweights.
