Chery Namibia recently appointed former Miss Namibia, Cassia Sharpley, as its brand ambassador. A brand ambassador is defined as someone who represents and advertises a company, supports its offers, and acts as the embodiment of the company’s corporate identity through words and actions. Brand ambassadors are usually well informed when it comes to talking about the brand or product they represent.
Richard Slamet, dealer principal of M+Z Motors said: “Chery, as a brand, is one of the fastest-growing car brands in the country at the moment. We take a lot of pride in our brand, and we would like to get an ambassador out there to be able to complete some of the projects that Cassia has. We love what she does, and we want to take her to the people. That’s what Chery is all about, it’s all about the people, and that’s why we decided on this particular ambassador.”
Sharpley, who represented Namibia at Miss Teen Continents in Las Vegas in 2018 and ultimately walked away with the Miss Namibia title in 2022, is an aspiring advanced life support paramedic. She also runs a non-governmental organisation known as the Honeycomb Haven Foundation.
Expressing even more enthusiasm, Sharpley said: “I will always give back to the community, whether it’s Cassia the paramedic student or the founder of Honeycomb Haven Foundation. I know that this is what M+Z is all about; giving back to the community.”
Sharpley encourages the Namibian child to dream big, adding that even if they aim for the moon, they are destined to land amongst the stars.
As part of her appointment, Chery Namibia gifted the former Miss Namibia a brand-new Chery Tiggo 4 vehicle, the LIT DCT 1.5 litre turbo version.
Meanwhile, Chery internationally reached a landmark milestone earlier this month by exporting the one-millionth Tiggo 4 to global markets. The vehicle departed from Dalian Port in China, where a special event celebrated the significant achievement.
Senior executives from Chery, key members from the Dalian Free Trade Zone, global partners, and media representatives gathered to witness the momentous occasion.
“The Tiggo 4 milestone highlights its widespread recognition as a standout product in Chery’s global lineup, and underscores its world-class competitiveness,” commented Verene Petersen, National Marketing Manager for Chery South Africa. “The Tiggo 4 has been instrumental in our success, with 1,172 units sold in February 2025 alone, making it one of South Africa’s most popular passenger vehicles.”
Since its debut in 2018, the Tiggo 4 has captured consumers’ attention in more than 70 countries and regions. As one of Chery’s global models, it has played a pivotal role in strengthening the brand’s international presence. In 2025, the compact SUV is set to enter the European market, marking a significant step in the Tiggo 4’s growth.
At the celebration, a senior executive from Chery reiterated the company’s commitment to global excellence. “Reaching the milestone of one million Tiggo 4 units exported highlights the trust our customers have placed in us,” said the executive.
“As we look to the future, we will continue to prioritise our technology-driven approach, leveraging our advanced R&D, robust quality control and efficient service networks to deliver high-quality vehicles to users worldwide.”
The strength of the Tiggo 4 lineup has not only driven sales to surpass one million units in such a short period, but has also garnered acclaim from the international motoring press. The Tiggo 4 Pro DCT received the Most Improved Car of the Year accolade at the Top Gear South Africa 2024 awards.
The Tiggo 4 isn’t the only Chery product to achieve immense export success in recent months. In November 2024, the company celebrated the same milestone with the midsized Tiggo 7.
