WINDHOEK – The Chinese Government yesterday donated RMB 150 million (about N$249 million) to the Namibian Government for the construction of phase 2 of the National Youth Service College and for the drilling of boreholes in all fourteen regions.
Some of the money will be used for the upgrading of the Swakopmund to Henties Bay road.
During the signing ceremony at the National Planning Commission (NPC) yesterday, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Xin Shunkang said his government was ready to work with the Namibian Government in its quest to realise Vision 2030.

“The Chinese government will continue to support Namibia and its people,” he said.
On his part, the NPC Director General Tom Alweendo said the People’s Republic of China and Namibia share long-standing relations that date back to the period of the liberation struggle.

“The Chinese Government has been a steadfast partner and has contributed significantly towards the attainment of our national aspirations over the years,” he said.
Alweendo said the Namibian Government sincerely appreciates the support provided by China and will continue to promote healthy development cooperation relations between the two on the basis of mutual interest.

“Today marks again another milestone where we will witness the signing of an agreement on economic and technical cooperation for projects proposed by the Namibian Government and agreed upon through consultations between the two governments,” he said.

He commended China for addressing the country’s development challenges and most importantly the solid relations and cooperation that exist between the two countries.
