WINDHOEK- Windhoek City Council has approved the Green Building Construction Special projects for a waterfront at the Goreangab Dam Area.

The project which is set to cost the City N$1 billion will comprise a water front development with business zoned erven with walkways and residential component with amenities.

The project is expected to create more than 2 840 temporary jobs for a period of 6 to 48 months, while there will be 540 permanent, fixed and contractual employees.

Kombadayedu Kapwanga, who is the project director, says that the development has the capacity to turn around the fortunes of the country’s unemployment masses if implemented well.

“They will totally turn around the face of Windhoek,” he said. He views the project as a major face-lift for Windhoek’s crowded Katutura and Goreangab area.

According to Kapwanga the project will not only change the face of the City but it will also boost the city’s economy.

According to the City of Windhoek Spokesperson, Joshua Amukugo, development in previously neglected areas that will bring services closer to the people like supermarkets, clothing shops, and restaurants.

“Wetlands and natural vegetation along the dam shore will also be restored,” said Amukugo at the press conference on Thursday.

Furthermore the City has also approved the development of a golf course and residential component by Eros Valley consortium as a special project in Eros Park.

The development will entail a state of the art golf course with residential component.

There be provision of 466 residential erven and the development is expected to create 1500 employment opportunity during the township development, and 824 employment opportunity during residential housing development.
