By Staff Reporter

WINDHOEK – The usually sleepy area of Masokotwani in the vast Zambezi Region staged a successful maiden edition of the Masokotwani Community Cup during the festive season.

The tournament attracted teams from surrounding places such as Kwena, Gunkwe, Makolonga and Masokotwani, with a crowd of more than 700 residents – both young and old – all cheering their teams during the well-attended tourney.

Destroyers FC scooped top honours when they emerged as overall winners, walking away with a trophy, cash prize and gold medals, while Kwena FC finished in second place and took home silver medals and cash prize, while Gunkwe FC had to settle for a consolation third-place.

A combination of the youthful and old crooks entertained the crowd with amazing moves on the pitch.

The following teams participated in the tournament; Madala FC, New Age FC, Destroyers FC, Gunkwe FC, Kwena FC and Makolonga FC.

The tourney will become an annual competition.

Excell, the terrific stricker of Destroyers FC, was the top goal scorer of the tournament with a total of five goals.

The objective of the tournament was to accord the locals an opportunity to surround themselves with positive activities rather than spend their festive season in shebeens or getting involved in crime.

The tournament was open to all teams..
