WINDHOEK– A compilation album with 40 tracks that will consist of all the winning artists’ songs is being produced, reveals MTC’s Corporate Communication Chief Tim Ekandjo.
All artists will receive N1500 for each song featured on the album and all revenue of the album will be shared among participating artists. The album will be sold for N$150 and will be released soon. Ekandjo also said that thy will be putting together a NAMA house band to encourage live performance at the annual event. The cost off this year’s Namibian Annual Music Awards (MAMAs) was N$8 million in total, revealed during a prize giving ceremony held at the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) studios.
N$1.1million was paid out to all category winners and the remaining millions were for direct cost. The best male and female artists of the year each walked away with N$50,000 while other winners each received between the range of N$15000 and N$25,000 for winning their respective categories. All the winners also received their award statues and a Huawei smartphone. “When we started in 2011 with this project, the idea was to build a sexy, consistent brand in Africa and despite our mistakes, this year I must say we delivered a world class event,” says Ekandjo, thanking all those who took part in making this event a success.
Ekandjo says planning for next year’s NAMAs has already started.
