The Swapo Party Elders Council (SPEC) is questioning the ownership and acquisition of the Mix Squatter Camp or informal settlement on the outskirts of Windhoek.
The plot that was owned by Heiner Mix, who died in 1999, was later sold to Secretary to Cabinet, Frans Kapofi, in 2003.
The Elders’ Council is calling on government to do something to clear the confusion around the Mix saga.
“Who received the cheque from Kapofi,” asked the ruling party’s Elder’s Council Secretary for the Khomas region, Emmanuel Muatara, in an interview with New Era.
Kapofi acquired the plot, Portion 8 of Farm Emmarentia, in July 2003, through the close corporation Eluwa Lya Tenda Property, of which he is the sole member.
The Deputy Minister of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Kazenambo Kazenambo, also owns a portion of the farm.
The informal settlement started in the 1980s when the plot owner, the late Mix, allowed some workers to settle on his property.
