Two conservancies in the Kunene Region this year suspended schemes meant to compensate farmers for livestock losses.

The conservancies – Sesfontein and Torra – had established the schemes to compensate farmers partly for losses suffered through problem animals, which are still common. The scheme is part of the Human Animal Conflict Conservancy Self Insurance Scheme that was introduced in nine conservancies in the Caprivi and Kunene regions to insure individual conservancy members against stock losses.

Farmers would get N$800 for cattle, N$250 for goats, N$150 for sheep and N$300 for donkeys and horses.
