A police officer from Okakarara was recently fined for gratification in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court.
Avelino Bonisasius, 47, was convicted of having used a police vehicle to transport game meat on October 15 2010 from a farm near Okakarara. He faced charges of being in possession of game meat and transporting game meat in a police vehicle, the latter in breach of the Anti-Corruption Act.
Bonisasius was sentenced to a fine of N$250 or in default of payment, to spend three months in jail for being in possession of game meat.
For contravening the ACC Act, Bonisasius was sentenced to a fine of N$6 000 or in default of payment, spend 12 months in prison.
Magistrate Stanley Tembwe presided. Leonard Tjiveze represented the State.
