Windhoek

The matter in which a member of the City Police stands accused of murdering his wife will proceed in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on September 2. The matter was remanded this week for further investigations.

Johannes Sheetekela Werner, 31, and Rosalia Eliphas, 26, are charged with murder following the death of Taleni Hamukwaya Werner, 29, in a Windhoek hospital on April 28.

The victim died four days after she was injured in an incident that took place on a street in the Donkerhoek area of Katutura.

It is alleged that on April 24 the duo allegedly assaulted Taleni Hamukwaya Werner with the common interest of killing her.

The victim was married to accused Werner.

Court documents revealed that the accused allegedly hit the victim all over her body and head, before pushing her to the ground.

The deceased was afterwards taken to the Roman Catholic Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The duo was arrested and charged on April 26.

Werner was denied bail earlier this month, while Eliphas is out on bail of N$4 000.

Werner and two other colleagues in the Windhoek City Police also face charges of murder, kidnapping, and defeating or obstructing the course of justice, or attempting to do so, in connection with the death of the 17-year-old Mandela Ramakhutla on April 24 2013. The matter is pending in the High Court.

The three officers are accused of having assaulted Ramakhutla on April 16 2013 when they questioned him about the theft of goods from the head offices of the Windhoek Municipality.

They allegedly later took him to the Windhoek central police station in a seriously injured condition with the instruction that he had to be detained for theft. Police officers on duty at the station had the injured teenager taken to hospital, where he died eight days later.
