Corruption charges against a member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) that she used her office for personal gratification were withdrawn in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday, after the magistrate refused a further postponement.
Annacky Nangula Shapu, 31, faced charges of corruptly using her office or position for gratification, charged under the Anti-Corruption Act. She also faced a count of theft by false pretences.
Shapu was arrested in June this year by Anti-Corruption Commission agents.
Court documents indicated that in February last year in Windhoek, Shapu, being a public officer in her capacity as an investigator in the NDF, did wrongfully, unlawfully directly or indirectly and corruptly use her office or position in a public body to obtain gratification for her own benefit, or that of the other person.
She allegedly received N$26 735.17 as payment for repairs of an NDF vehicle which was involved in an accident and used it for her own benefit.
She faced a fine not exceeding N$500 000. Magistrate Gerrit Brand van Pletzen refused to entertain another postponement and struck the matter from the roll.
Shapu was refunded her N$5 000 bail.
