Home Crime and Courts Two in court for attempted murder

Keetmanshoop

Two men accused of attempted murder yesterday made their first appearance in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court.

The accused are 18-year-old Paul Boois and 29-year-old Abraham Mothinga. They each face a charge of attempted murder and made a brief appearance before magistrate Hellena Nepembe, who explained their legal rights to them. They indicated they would conduct their own defence.

State prosecutor Yvanne Mcleod objected to bail for both accused, saying that investigations into the matter were still ongoing and at a very sensitive stage.

She added that granting bail to the two would not be in the interest of the State and the public due to the seriousness of the case. The case was postponed to September 07 for further police investigations, while the two accused were remanded in police custody.

In a gender-based violence (GBV) case a man allegedly stabbed a woman – said to be his former girlfriend – with a knife at Aussenkehr last Saturday night.

The victim was referred to the Karasburg hospital due to the seriousness of her condition and the suspect was arrested and expected to appear in court yesterday.
