WINDHOEK – Prominent Windhoek lawyer Dirk Conradie and his friend Sara Damases have been re-summoned to face charges of corruption in connection with the N$60 million advertising tender of the country’s largest mobile network operator MTC.
They appeared yesterday in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Hileni Kavara, who informed the two that their case would now be heard in the High Court on November 14. Oscar Sinvula represented the State.
Initial charges were withdrawn in June after several postponements by the State. The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested Conradie and Damases last year, and Conradie was charged for corruptly “soliciting gratification as a reward for giving assistance or using his influence in the promotion or procuring of a contract with MTC for the provision of advertising services.” Conradie was the chairperson of the MTC board of directors at the time.
Damases stands accused of conspiring with Conradie, who is said to have asked a local advertising agency to make Damases a partner for the firm to secure the N$60 million advertising contract.
