Violent crimes such as murder, attempted murder, and hit-and-run incidents led the recorded cases nationwide over the weekend, accompanied by an increase in housebreakings and drug-related offenses.
In Katutura, Windhoek, a 31-year-old man died after being assaulted with a metal object on Saturday afternoon. The victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The suspect remains at large.
In an unrelated incident, a 16-year-old boy is in serious condition after being stabbed during a fight in Epako, Gobabis, in the early hours of Saturday. The suspect fled the scene and has not yet been arrested.
Culpable homicide
Two pedestrians lost their lives in separate hit-and-run accidents.
In Tsandi, an adult male cattle herder was discovered dead on the road after being hit by an unidentified vehicle that did not stop. At Mombela village, a 32-year-old man died instantly after being struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene. Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
Suicide
A 32-year-old man in Keetmanshoop died by suicide early Sunday morning, shooting himself with a hunting rifle. No suicide note was found, and the motive remains unknown.
Housebreakings
In Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek, armed suspects entered a house, tied up a victim, and stole gadgets and personal items.
Other incidents occurred in Ondangwa, Okatope, Katima Mulilo, Nkurenkuru, Katutura, and Klein Windhoek, where offenders broke into properties and stole electronic devices and personal belongings.
Most cases have not resulted in arrests yet.
Drug possession
Several towns reported drug-related arrests.
In Swakopmund, a suspect was detained for possession of cannabis mixed with tobacco.
In Mondesa, police arrested two suspects with cocaine following a raid. Another suspect was detained in Mururani with cannabis. All individuals are now in police custody.
Inquest, assault
Police are investigating multiple inquest cases reported over the weekend. A seven-year-old boy drowned in an earth dam at Ongwediva, and a nine-year-old boy drowned in a pond at Eenhana. In separate cases, individuals were found dead at their homes in Oshakati, Kehemu, and Nomtsoub, with no foul play suspected.
In Otjiwarongo, a suspect allegedly assaulted a man by punching, grabbing, and biting him during an altercation.
Police investigations are ongoing.
