By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK If you are in any of our neighbouring states during March and April, make sure you attend the following: Zimbabwe (Harare) Pregnant With Emotion, collective stage work by two Zimbabwean playwrights, is the next production to be staged at Theatre in the Park. States a release from Harare-based theatre promoter, Daves Guzha: ” I bet my last dollar that you will get your money’s worth if you just make a date with Theatre in the Park from 10 to 18 March at these time slots: 5:30pm and 7:30pm. The play qualifies the fact that the independence of every country is akin to fertilization.” He goes on to describe the work as “so sweet, full of joy, poignant, revealing, uniting and even unadulterated. “The umbilical cord makes mother and child one. But as the foetus grows, it enters into an exploratory mode assuming a life of its own. Is it the mother’s sole responsibility to determine the foetus’ footprints then,” he asked. For a change, post-colonial Zimbabwe artists find themselves firmly placed in the familiar, yet unenviable historic role of being the nation’s mirror and diary. The play is produced and directed by Daves Guzha, with Edgar Langeveldt and Raisedon Baya as playwrights in this ethereal and evocative stage-play. Add to this a gender sensitive cast of Zimbabwe’s creme de la creme of performing artists: Chiwoniso Maraire, Walter Mu-parutsa, Chirikure Chi-rikure, Thembi Ngwabi, Daves Guzha and Mandla Moyo. South Africa (Pretoria) An intensive four-day seminar for African filmmakers by Wispeco. Namibian filmmaker Vickson Hangula will represent the local fraternity at the seminar.
