The long weekend did not end so well in some parts of the country after a deadly shooting at a shebeen claimed a life on Monday night.
The fatal shooting occurred at Okaonde village near Onayena in the Oshikoto Region.
Police in Oshikoto have filed a case of murder against a 62-year-old male after he allegedly shot Evalistus Shipanga in the chest, killing him on the spot.
The incident occurred on Monday at around 21h30.
According to the crime co-ordinator in the region Deputy Commissioner Naomi Katjiua, the incident occurred following a quarrel between the two, resulting in the unfortunate loss of life.
Meanwhile, nine-year-old Wilka Angula died on the spot after she fell from a donkey cart on which she was travelling. It is reported that the donkey cart slammed into a pole and overturned. The incident happened at around 06h50 at Okaluwa village in the Omuntele area.
Thirty-nine-year-old Kleophas Amulungu is fighting for his life in the Onandjokwe Lutheran Hospital after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving approximately 11km to Omuthiya on the Othemayethano gravel road.
Amulungu sustained serious injuries to his neck and head. One passenger in the same vehicle died on the spot while the other escaped with minor injuries.
A case of culpable homicide was opened against him and the next of kin of the deceased have been informed.
