The Namibian Hydrological Services has reported increased river flow conditions in parts of the country, while national dam storage levels remain significantly higher compared to the same period last year.
According to a flood bulletin issued on Wednesday, satellite imagery from the past 24 hours indicates that light showers fell over the eastern part of the country.
The bulletin indicated that the Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo recorded a water level of 0.87 metres on Tuesday morning, which is higher than the 0.34 metres recorded during the same period last year.
The Okavango River at Rundu recorded a steady water level of 4.90 metres, representing a decrease from the 5.53 metres recorded during the same period last year.
“On the Lower Orange River, water levels at Blouputs and Sendelingsdrift were recorded at 2.01 metres and 2.05 metres respectively, while the Kunene River at Ruacana recorded a flow of 167.40 cubic metres per second,” the statement said.
Regarding dam storage, the bulletin noted that the total content of the country’s dams stood at 80.1% as of 5 January 2026, compared to 80.0% recorded on 29 December 2025.
“A storage surplus of 28.7% is observed in comparison to last year’s record,” the statement said.
