EENHANA – Every once in a while, a fresh face or group bounces into the entertainment industry. Mostly, the new faces often change the landscape of the industry, giving those who were there before them a tougher time.
Donsy and Daisy is one such duo who will make the giants in the Damara Punch music genre, also known as Ma/gaisa, to wake up from a deep slumber. The 20- year-old identical twins had hardly appeared on the scene but already seem to be proving a force to reckon with poising to change the local entertainment landscape especially in the Damara punch genre with their eleven track debut album titled “Ta’ Tsu Tsuba Mi”. They don’t want to be compared to any Damara Punch giants but judged on their own merit. The Manager of the talented duo, Lucky Gariseb, is quick to opine that the only similarity between them and other female Namibian musicians is singing the same the genre but differs when it comes to stage works and performances as they are inspired by the late South African disco diva, Brenda Fassie, the living legends P J Powers and Yvonne Chaka Chaka. Locally the duo is inspired by Patrica Ochurus and Erna Chimu. “As much as people would want to compare us with other Damara Punch artists, we have heard it after our performances in Katima Mulilo, Rundu recently, but we are here with a different style,” says the Manager.
The Windhoek born twins are energetic performers who left the audience speechless in their last two performances at City Lounge in Windhoek and Katima Mulilo during their launch of their album last December. The Manager reveals that what set them apart from other entertainers is the fact that the two are very besides being energetic, charming and respectful and passionate with their music. “They love what they are doing so far,” affrims Gariseb
Tracing their footprints in music, it turns out that their love for music first began in primary school when their teachers would often give them platforms during assembly time. Soon after, they realised that music was something that they love and wanted to pursue professionally. And that is how they recorded some songs under the Khomasdal Music Production (KMP) under Gariseb as producer.
Their parents and relatives are happy and impressed with their progress so far since the launch of the album. The album has number one tracks such as //Gau/Goras, Ware Liefde and track eleven, a remixed titled Gau/Goras, which are receiving reviews with on the Namibian Broadcasting Service (NBC)’s radio language services such as Silozi, Damara/Nama and Tirello ya Tsetwana. Track number one, //Gau/Goras, was received very well by fans during the last two shows.
Other tracks include Mati/ta ni di, Ida Gera ra, Ne Uib, Mama, Ta tsu tsuba Mi, Ma/Gaisa, /Hohab and Stop violence.
Born Senvonia Donsy Ironga and Simonia Daisy Ironga some20 years ago, and completed their secondary education in Khorixas at Cornelius Goreseb Secondary school in the Kunene region. Daisy is currently studying Business Administration with the University of Namibia (Unam) while Donsy is now working for the Ministry of Health and Social Services. They plan to bring in their own T-shirt label as a way of generating money for their music business. “We shall do everything one step at a time,” says Gariseb adding quickly that their music is different as it has a message that listeners can take home. Instead of writing songs that their fans can just enjoy without taking anything home, they want to give them lessons that they use in their lives. “Music should be about the message in the songs. Don’t stifle the talents of upcoming musicians because this country’s music industry lies in them. Upcoming musicians should not give but persevere until they make it,” he says
As for the future, their Manager says Donsy and Daisy intends to embark on a nationwide tour to promote their debut album, especially during the independence celebrations.
