The Dance Sport Namibia (DSN) federation is on a mission to popularise the sport by teaching students at schools. During a press conference held yesterday at the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) in the capital, Stanley Mareka, who is the president of the federation, said dance sports can become a formidable force within the country if they get enough support.

“As Namibians, dancing is in our DNA and if we can come together and popularise this sport, we will become a force to be reckoned with. We are hoping to see the sports code grow and that’s why we are inviting dance coach Rendall Raubenheimer to come and help us teach the basics about this sport,” he said.

Mareka said so far there are four clubs active in the country, and the federation is hoping to increase that number and reach all corners of the country.

“The upcoming training will be an eye opener to those that are interested in the sports code,” he said.

Mareka noted that next year they would be targeting schools to get more people involved because he believes that for every sports code to prosper, they should be fed by the talent at the school level.

“An exciting venture is the rolling out of the Dance Sport School League. This will be done in close cooperation with the Namibia School Sport Union. Dance Sport Namibia looks forward to training coaches from each school in the country. This will help us reach our goal of becoming popular and reaching as many people as possible. We aim to qualify for the Olympics in Paris in 2024,” he added.
