WALVIS BAY – Two persons died and two were seriously injured yesterday morning when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned near the saltpans on the fringes of the ocean shore at Walvis Bay.
According to the Crime Investigations Coordinator of the police in the Erngo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashipuulwa, the accident occurred after five men decided to go fishing in an area close to the saltpans known for fishing when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned. She indicated that speeding could have been the cause of the accident. “It is believed that the occupants were drinking during the night and decided to go fishing on Sunday around 04h30,” Kashuupulwa said.
According to her the two died on the spot. One person is currently being treated in the Welwitschia Hospital, while another was airlifted to Windhoek due to the nature of his injuries. The driver only sustained slight injuries. She also indicated that the names of the deceased cannot be released at this stage since the next of kin are yet to be informed.
