Two people died on Saturday after a car they were travelling in lost control on the Trans-Caprivi-Highway and crashed into a tree at approximately 14h30 at Mashare village, Kavango East Region about 50 km east of Rundu.

It is alleged the driver of a maroon Toyota Run X (registration N138-167W) was travelling towards Rundu from an eastern direction when he lost control over the car and it overturned.

“The driver, who was identified as Nauyoma Simon Poroto, 25, and one passenger, Ekandjo Sigberth Imbili, 27, died on the spot,” said Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, the acting regional crime investigations coordinator for Kavango East Region. Both deceased were residents of Rundu’s Nkarapamwe location.

Mubebo said one passenger, identified as Neumbo Daniel Malga, 23, who was travelling with the two now-deceased victims sustained multiple minor bodily injuries in the crash.

In another horrific car accident at about 16h00 on Saturday at Sun City informal location in Rundu a brand new silver Mitsubishi with no registration number overturned while on the Trans-Caprivi-Highway after the driver lost control, while travelling from east to west.

The driver, named as Andrew Jacob Siwombe, 32, was rushed to Rundu State Hospital, but died a few minutes after arriving there.

Three passengers, including a minor, survived – albeit with minor injuries. They have been identified as Blasius Nyangana, 23, Thomas Sikere, 20, and Petrus Hausiku, 16, according Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo. “Their next of kin have been informed. Police investigations continue,” he said.
