Dispatched thoughts – One thing at a time

Dispatched thoughts – One thing at a time

There are some great people out there who are doing amazing things. I have been impressed by many of them and I always wondered how they did it, how they managed to do so much so quickly, relatively speaking. Sometimes I am astonished at their responses. You would think it’s the most obvious thing in the world, but they just seem to do it better.

One of the recipes for achieving anything worthwhile is hard work. That goes without saying; we are all aware of that and it should be a building block of life in general. That along with other attributes only work if you know what you are doing – the keyword being ‘doing’ or taking action as it was recently alluded to me. It’s not as mystical as is imagined. There is one golden rule that those who have found great success seem to allude to and that is doing something, just start.

You just need to find one thing every day that makes you better, you need to do one thing every day that brings you closer to your objective, whatever it may be. It reminds me of a Lao Tzu quote: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. Not only does it start with a single step, but it is carried out with a single step right up until the end, no matter how fast or slow you are going, it’s still a single step after a single step that will get you to the end.

The youth in general are quite impatient and will always look for the easiest and quickest way to get something done, which will usually involve trying to do a million things at once in one day. I am guilty of that too, but it hardly produces the desired results we usually seek. In fact, it usually does the opposite of what we want it to.

Rome is a beautiful city, but as they say, it wasn’t built in a day. Anything worthwhile is achievable, but you have got to do it one bit at a time consistently, and before you know it, you have built yourself a Rome.

Great people are not just great because they did amazing things. They are great because they did one thing right over and over again over a long period. That’s how they got to be who they are. They say it’s that simple!
