The dawn of modern housing has arrived for inhabitants of the local authority of Divundu who yearns for urban, -modern growth in the eastern corner of the Kavango East region.
Just some few kilometres to Bwabwata National Park, Divundu in recent years has seen several infrastructure developments, including roads and a shopping mall. The latest project will provide 110 modern houses which are set to be constructed private property developer, El-Shadai Trading Enterprise. In partnership with MTC the new housing will also be connected to internet connectivity through MTC’s Spectra Home, a first in the area bringing transformative access to the digital world at Divundu.
The investor, El-Shadai Trading Enterprise said financial institutions such as FNB, Bank Windhoek, Nedbank, Bank Bic and Letshego are on board to finance the home loans of those interested to purchase a property at the project. In addition, Deka Realtors, a real estate agency specialising in new housing development, will be at the forefront of the sales of the houses.
“The total budget of the project is N$50 million, people from all walks of life can now prepare themselves to get bank pre-approvals and their subsidies in order so that they buy these modern houses, they can begin to engage our agents so that they are not left out,” said Augustus Luis from El-Shadai Trading Enterprise.
The project will in the coming months kick-off to provide not only quality modern houses, but also employment to inhabitants of the town during the construction period.
‘‘As the Regional Councillor for Mukwe constituency where Divundu is, I am pleased for the ongoing development in Divundu, particularly the construction of 110 modern homes by El-Shadai Trading Enterprise. This is a monumental step forward for the town, which has long been a gateway to Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC),’’ said Mukwe constituency councillor, Damian Maghambayi.
The councillor further likened the project as one that aligns itself to the Swapo party manifesto which aims to provide housing for Namibians. He said it’s important that councillors of the party promote a conducive environment where investors both local and international can invest in their areas.
Maghambayi indicated that Divundu’s strategic location not only connects people and countries but also offers significant potential for growth.
‘‘Divundu, with its picturesque beauty, deserves modern infrastructure like the homes being developed, which will not only enhance the living standards but also offer a glimpse into the future of urban development in our region. The construction of these homes will create employment opportunities for the youth, contributing to alleviating poverty and fostering a sense of pride and ownership within the community,’’ he said.
Maghambayi, who has been courting investors to invest in Divundu further noted that this project is a key driver in boosting the local and national economy. He said with continued investments in infrastructure, Divundu is poised to become an even more vital hub for trade, tourism, and commerce, thus enhancing Namibia’s position in the regional and global market. “This development reflects our commitment to growth and progress, ensuring that Divundu continues to play its important role in connecting people across borders while benefiting from modern housing and economic opportunities,’’ he said.
Divundu boasts several lodges, supermarkets, and an expanding blueberry farm, all contributing to the local economy by creating much-needed employment opportunities. In addition, the Divundu Correctional Facility, with its high staff turnover, the Divundu Army Base, and the Divundu Agricultural Research Centre, all play crucial roles in providing livelihoods for many in the region.
Divundu is also strategically situated near key attractions such as the Buffalo Core Area and Mahango Core Area under Bwabwata National Park, which boosts tourism and local employment.
With three secondary schools and numerous primary schools, Divundu continues to provide educational opportunities for the next generation.
“All of these institutions, businesses, and developments require housing for their employees and residents. The new housing project will directly support these vital sectors, ensuring that Divundu remains a thriving, sustainable community. As a region, we are experiencing growth, and it is essential that our housing infrastructure grows alongside it to accommodate this positive momentum,’’ he noted.
