RUNDU – A 40-year-old domestic worker was arrested in Kavango West region after he was reported to the police for allegedly attempting to rape a three-year-old minor girl last week.

According to the police, the suspect intentionally took the minor victim from a bar where the mother was and took her home. There, he reportedly undressed her and himself before allegedly touching and fondling her private parts.

The police added the suspect was found by the mother of the victim who followed them and found him in the room naked with the minor. He was due to appear in the Kahenge Magistrate’s Court yesterday, while police investigations continue.

In an unrelated police report, a 57-year-old Angolan-born man fell victim to human-wildlife conflict after being killed by a hippo while fishing in the Sangwali area on 6 June. His decomposed remains were only discovered recently.

“On Friday, 17 June, a missing person was reported at Sangwali police station. It is alleged that the deceased, Salomao Balund (57), an Angolan national and his friend went fishing and the deceased was attacked and killed by a hippo,’’ the police noted.

“His body was recovered in a decomposed state as it is alleged that the incident happened on 6 June 2022 and was only reported missing on Friday, 17 June. His next of kin were informed and police investigation continues.”
