The Namibia Local Authority Workers Union has signed an agreement with DriveWell Namibia to help upgrade the skills of workers in the local authority sector in Namibia.

DriveWell is a driver training centre that offers defensive driving, off-road driving or VIP bodyguard driver training, both theory and practical, among others.

Throughout the years, workers have struggled to get promoted due to lack of skills and proper training within their fields, said Chris Katjitundu of NALAWU.

Katjitundu said it is important for local authorities to make sure that their workers are well equipped with skills and training so that they can deliver excellent services to the municipal clients and in turn positively contribute to the Namibian economy.

Local authority workers from different regions will receive training from DriveWell and both members and workers are urged to use the opportunity.

“We are appealing to all the local authorities to give an opportunity to their workers, to make use of this agreement signed between the two institutions to upgrade their skills.”

Speaking at the official signing meeting, managing member of DriveWell Nico Smith, urged the public to change their attitude on the roads to reduce accidents and to create safer roads for all users.

He recommends the defensive driving course, saying, “it allows one driver to think for themselves and other drivers on the road.”
