WINDHOEK – With Christmas around the corner some people are thinking of how to make it a pleasant one for the less privileged and on Saturday the senior citizens of the Katutura Old Age Home and 72 orphans and vulnerable children from St Barnabas Primary School enjoyed an early Christmas party.
The early Christmas party was held at the Old Age Home in Katutura. They were treated to music, including old school, lunch and Christmas gifts which included toiletries, bowls, and cutlery for the elderly while the children received toys, sweets and t-shirts. Angela Katjimune, one of the initiators said the gesture was to serve the elderly and to shower them with love and show the orphans and vulnerable children that they can live life to the fullest and achieve their dreams. “The elders (senior citizens) and the homeless really appreciated it,” said Doris Meroro who was part of the initiative that saw the elderly and the children’s faces lighten up with smiles of appreciation.
“I just want to make the world a better place for someone else,” added Meroro. The supervisor of the Old Age Home, Martha Rukoro, also expressed appreciation towards the initiators of the gesture.
“If the country had more people with hearts like this, it would be a better place. We enjoyed the music and they showered us with lots of love. Even the elderly, when they take their bowls they will know that it was given to them with love.”
