EENHANA –Spokesperson of the Eenhana Boxing and Fitness Academy, George Nawatiseb, is appealing to Namibians, and the Ohangwena business community and volunteers particularly, to donate state-of-the-art facilitates to help aspiring young boxers to realise their dreams.
The heavily built and stocky official of the Academy says the Ohangwena region has the potential with highly talented young boxers but their talent is being hampered by the lack of training facilities. “We have won two trophies for the Amateur Boxing Development Championship, four trophies for best boxers in the region including three boxers who won the Under-20 category. Our only shortcoming is the lack of gym and other boxing facilities and equipment in order to maintain our boxing skills. We have lined up events for 2015 and have no space and facilities for our training sessions,” charges a worried Nawatiseb
According to one of the talented youths, who is also coaching boxing in Eenhana, Petrus Gerson, their Academy has applied for sports facilities to the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture but nothing has been forthcoming. “Of course, we know that our stadium is not yet fully completed but according to our own analysis, the stadium is having a boxing and gym department and we are humbly requesting them to open up for those facilities at the stadium. Our time is running out and we need a place for our training. Remember, our motto is to take these youths out of shebeens, [and away from] drugs and criminal activities,” he explains.
